3D chess to learn real mathematics

MatEscac connects the chessboard with the Catalan mathematics curriculum: vectors, algorithms, invariants and computational thinking, through play.

Computational thinking on the board

Every move is an operation. Every game is an algorithm you can read, debug and improve.

Vectors and coordinates

Algebraic notation (e4) is a point (4, 3). Every move is a displacement vector you can compute and compare.

Algorithms

Program a bot with blocks: if you can capture, capture; otherwise take the centre. Watch what it does and why.

Debugging

Find the error in a sequence of moves and fix it. Debugging games is debugging code.

For teachers

Built for Escola Industrial teachers: import your classes and measure competences without spreadsheets.

Class import

Create groups with a class code (MAT-1ESO-A) or import the student list from CSV.

Competence metrics

0-100 indices in computational thinking, geometry and algebra, aligned with Decree 175/2022.

Exportable reports

Group and individual reports in CSV or PDF for academic assessment.

Leagues and tournaments

Create competitions between groups: everyone plays everyone, rankings update in real time, and medals are awarded.

Automatic leagues

Create a round-robin league for each group. MatEscac handles pairings, manages clocks, and updates scores.

Medals and rankings

Indexes for wins, accuracy, and speed. Winners earn medals. Losers see how to improve.

Spectators

Teachers and admins watch live games. Students learn by watching classmates play.

Try the 3D board

Rotate the camera, select a piece and see the legal moves and the displacement vector.

Computing

Computational thinking

Algorithms, sequences, debugging and abstraction applied to the game.

Geometry

Geometry and vectors

Coordinates, displacements, distances and geometric patterns on the board.

Algebra

Algebra and invariants

Material counting, parity and quantities that stay constant.
